The deceased have been identified as Jatin, 22, of Mandya village, and Himesh, 20, of Niganiawas. Their friend Yashpal 21, a resident of Budhana village, was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The police suspect the incident is the fallout of an ongoing rivalry between two student groups.

According to preliminary information from the police the three youths were travelling on a motorcycle when the attackers allegedly rammed them with a car near Gokalpur. After they fell on the road, the assailants allegedly attacked them with sticks, rods and sharp-edged weapons before fleeing the spot.

According to the family members, Jatin was married and had a young daughter. He worked at a company in Rewari and had left home in the morning, reportedly telling his family that he was going to work. Himesh was preparing for government recruitment examinations and receiving coaching. His father works as a school bus driver.

Police suspect the incident may be linked to a confrontation between two groups at Kishan Lal Public College (KLP). According to preliminary information, members of both groups had allegedly decided to gather at a particular time and called their associates before the confrontation escalated.

However, police have not yet established the exact role of the three victims in the earlier dispute.

Police recovered three motorcycles from different locations. One was found near Gokalpur and was reportedly being used by Jatin, Himesh and Yashpal. Soon after getting the information a police team reached the spot and shifted the injured youth to hospital. Police are recording statements and examining the circumstances leading to the attack. On being contacted Rewari superintendent of police Hemendra Kumar Meena said that the police have identified accused involved in the incident and they will be apprehended at the earliest as five police crime branch teams are working on it

Sadar police station SHO Rakesh Kumar said the FIR on the charges of murder has been registered against unidentified persons and the matter is under investigation.

He said that police are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify the attackers and determine the exact sequence of events.
