Swatantra Nagar shooting: Jail inmate brought on production warrant in Ludhiana

Five days after 25-year-old Harjinder Singh, alias Harry, was gunned down in Swatantra Nagar, the autopsy has revealed that a bullet pierced through his abdomen and damaged vital organs, ultimately leading to his death. Police officials have brought an inmate from Ludhiana Central Jail on a production warrant in connection with the crime.
A three-member board comprising Dr Vishal, Dr Harpreet and Dr Mohit conducted the post-mortem examination on Thursday after police managed to persuade Harjinder’s family, which had initially refused the autopsy and cremation until all the accused were arrested. The body was later cremated in the presence of police personnel.
According to the autopsy findings, Harjinder had suffered two bullet injuries. One bullet entered through the right side of his abdomen and exited through the left side, damaging internal organs and also injuring his arm. The second bullet struck his thigh.
The examination also revealed multiple injuries and fractures to both legs and one arm, suggesting that he was repeatedly assaulted. He had also suffered blunt-force injuries to his head and abdomen.
Harjinder had gone out for dinner with his friends in the Sarabha Nagar market before reaching Swatantra Nagar to drop one of them. At around 11.30 pm, car-borne assailants allegedly intercepted them and opened fire on Harjinder. He collapsed after being hit by bullets. The attackers allegedly continued assaulting him with a sharp-edged weapon even after he had fallen.
The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the spot. The assailants also allegedly tried to chase Harjinder’s friends, who managed to escape.
Police have booked Harjinder’s alleged rivals Ravi Kumar, Mohit, Sunny Malton, Manjeet alias Bobby, Bheeu and two others on murder charges. Bobby and Mohit have been arrested, while jail inmate Amandeep Kumar alias Kaka has been brought from Ludhiana Central Jail on a production warrant. Police suspect the car used in the crime belonged to him.
The investigation is underway to apprehend the remaining accused. Inspector Gaganpreet Singh, SHO at Tibba police station, said that a hunt is on to arrest the remaining accused.
