Three-month jail for man who ploughed his car into parked vehicle in Chandigarh

The convict, identified as Ankit Khambra, a resident of Sector 40-D, Chandigarh, was held guilty under Section 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code

Ramming his car into a parked vehicle in 2017 has landed a Chandigarh resident in jail for three months.

The convict, identified as Ankit Khambra, a resident of Sector 40-D, Chandigarh, was held guilty under Section 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code.

Khambra was booked on the complaint of Sarvesh Singh Yadav, whose car was damaged in the mishap in December 2017.

The complainant had told police that his friend informed him about a speeding white car ramming into his vehicle parked near DPS School, Sector 40-C. As per his friend’s account, the speeding car came from the Sector 40-D side and hit his car before hitting a tree and overturning.

The collision had left the front portion of the complainant’s car damaged.

The driver of the speeding car was identified as Ankit Khambra, who was booked under Section 279 of the Indian Penal Code and arrested later.

During trial, the defence counsel argued that the first information report (FIR) was registered after 10 days, hinting at a false case.

The court of judicial magistrate first class Jaspreet Singh Minhas, however, convicted Khambra, while observing: “This court is of the view that the prosecution has succeeded in establishing its case against accused Ankit Khambra beyond reasonable doubt and has succeeded in linking the chain of evidence so as to prove the guilt of accused for the offence punishable under Section 279 of the Indian Penal Code.”
