20-yr-old held for killing his brother-in-law over family dispute in Nand Nagri

A 20-year-old man was arrested for killing his brother-in-law over a family dispute in Delhi. A knife was recovered after his confession.

New Delhi: A 20-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his 30-year-old brother-in-law over a family dispute at Tahirpur near Nand Nagri in northeast Delhi on Sunday, police said on Wednesday. A knife that was used in the crime was recovered following the interrogation of the arrested man, identified as Ramesh Yadav, the police said.

Deputy commissioner of police (northeast) Ashish Mishra said that on Sunday night, information was received at Nand Nagri police station from Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) hospital regarding the admission of a patient with stab injuries. A police team reached the hospital and learnt that the patient, identified by his single name, Neeraj, had been declared unfit to record his statement by the attending doctors. A case of attempt to murder was registered at the police station after it was learnt that the victim had been stabbed by his brother-in-law.

“Forensic experts visited the crime scene and collected important evidence. The investigating team located the suspect, Ramesh Yadav, and arrested him. During the interrogation, he confessed to stabbing the victim during a verbal altercation over a family dispute,” said Mishra.

The victim succumbed to his stab wounds during the treatment on Monday. Accordingly, the murder section under 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was added to the case, the police said.

In a separate police operation, the special cell of Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a 27-year-old man from Haryana’s Jhajjar in connection with a grisly crime wherein a 48-year-old businessman, who ran a canteen at Dwarka’s Chhattisgarh Bhawan, was killed, his body was cut into pieces that were stuffed in plastic bags and thrown into Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh’s Vrindavan in February.

The businessman, Anroop Gupta, was killed for gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees that he loved wearing and for R5 lakh that the accused demanded, but he refused to pay. The conspiracy was hatched about a month ago by the prime suspect, Honey alias Suraj,29, who included his live-in partner, Rakhi,21, and his three male accomplices – Bhupender,27, Balram,28, and Neeraj, also in his 20s. Except for Neeraj, all the accused were arrested.

“Our team members arrested Neeraj on Tuesday after they learnt that he had come to Dhandhlan village in Jhajjar to meet someone,” said DCP (special cell) Narra Chaitanya.
