Delhi minister Satyender Jain lays down foundation stone of 505km sewer lines

Revenue minister Kailash Gahlot also joined Jain in inaugurating the work of laying 346km of sewer lines in Najafgarh, which will benefit residents in 76 colonies and 16 villages in the constituency.

State water minister Satyendra Jain laid the foundation stone of the 505km sewer network for Najafgarh and Matiala constituencies on Sunday. The completion of the project will benefit approximately 2.3 million people residing in and outside the constituencies and also contribute towards cleaning the Yamuna, said officials in the know of the matter.

Revenue minister Kailash Gahlot also joined Jain in inaugurating the work of laying 346km of sewer lines in Najafgarh, which will benefit residents in 76 colonies and 16 villages in the constituency. These sewer lines will be laid in Mitraon, Kair, Jafarpur, Kazipur, Khera Dabar, Sarangpur and various parts of the Dichaon group of colonies.

Jain said the project will contribute towards cleaning Yamuna river. “Currently, due to non-availability of a sewerage system, sewage generated from these areas is discharged into the local pond or septic tank or stormwater drains, etc. The drain discharge goes to Yamuna via Najafgarh drain, increasing the pollution levels of the river...sewer lines will be laid to collect sewage and treat it at the nearby sewage treatment plant. Connecting every household with a sewer connection will help in better collection, treatment, and management of sewage, and not a single drop of untreated sewage will be discharged into the Yamuna,” said the water minister.

Gahlot said that Delhi’s villages were ignored for over 70 years by the previous governments, but under the leadership of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, villages and colonies in outer Delhi are witnessing development.

“After providing water pipeline, we will now connect every household in the rural areas with a sewer line. These sewer lines... will be a stepping stone in cleaning Yamuna river. The work will be completed in 15 months and will benefit the residents of Najafgarh assembly,” said Gahlot.

Jain, along with MLA Gulab Singh, also laid the foundation stone of a 159km-long sewer line in Kanganheri, Goyla Vihar, Khera Dabar, and Sarangpur group of colonies in Matiala, which is set to benefit approximately 1.5 million people residing in eight colonies and 11 villages of the constituency.
