Gurugram rain leaves several areas without power for up to five hours
Sushant Lok, sectors 52, 57, 71, 99, 102 and 103 and DLF areas reported outages after rain triggered feeder faults and damaged lines.
Several areas across Gurugram reported power outages lasting up to five hours following heavy rain early Saturday, with residents in several residential and high-rise localities alleging that electricity supply was not restored for hours, while discom officials attributed the disruptions to feeder faults, damaged power lines, broken poles, transformers and trees and branches falling on overhead lines.

Residents of Sushant Lok-1, 2 and 3, sectors 52, 57, 71, 99, 102 and 103, and DLF Phases 1, 2 and 3 reported significant disruptions, along with several other areas under both circles of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (DHBVN).
Taking to social media, residents said the outages began soon after it started raining around 12.30am in different parts of the city.
According to discom officials, several hours of heavy rain caused faults in feeders in several areas, besides sparking, broken poles, and trees and branches damaging power lines, resulting in outages across several areas.
Brij Kishore Singh, a Sector 103 resident, said post-rain power outages had become the new normal in sectors along the Dwarka expressway.
“Several societies in Sector 103 and neighbouring areas suffered a long power outage starting at 1am. Supply was restored only after 6am. The government should investigate why the DHBVN infrastructure fails every time it rains. It seems there is no proper maintenance. Discom officials mostly cite ‘feeder fault’ in any outage,” Singh alleged.
Urmila Mattu, a resident of Sushant Lok III in Sector 57, said the outage started at 12.30pm and the power supply could not be restored even after 5am.
“We repeatedly followed up with Discom officials to seek an estimated time for power restoration but received no response,” she alleged.
Nikhil Chawla, a resident of Block A in Sushant Lok I, said the power supply snapped in his area late Friday and was not restored even till 4am on Saturday.
“Residents suffered from heat. An estimated time should at least be provided to consumers for power supply restoration,” he said.
Shalini Singh, another resident of Sector 57, said power outages are a major issue in her area.
“Supply gets snapped for several hours as soon as it rains. The government should take necessary action,” she said.
A DISCOM official, meanwhile, said that underground feeders near Farrukhnagar and Sector 99 developed faults after the rain, affecting electricity supply in several societies along the Dwarka Expressway.
“Local faults from poles, transformers, and overhead supply lines damaged by short-circuits or branches collapsing due to heavy rain caused the outages. Ground teams restored all of them by morning, starting repair work soon after the rain stopped,” the official said.
