232 law colleges added to CAP after conditional approval

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has also extended the deadline for students to indicate their preferred choice of colleges

MUMBAI: As many as 232 law colleges have been added to the centralised admission process (CAP) for the three- and five-year LLB courses in Maharashtra after the Bar Council of India (BCI) gave them conditional approval. With this addition, students will now have more options for admission, with a total of 381 colleges and 31,600 seats available across the state.

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has also extended the deadline for students to indicate their preferred choice of colleges. Students applying for the three-year LLB course can fill their forms till August 16, while those opting for the five-year LLB course have time till August 15.

On August 10, the BCI gave conditional approval to the 232 law colleges for the 2026-27 academic year. The BCI said this was a one-time measure only for Maharashtra and for the 2026-27 academic year only. The move is expected to help students whose admissions were affected due to delays in the approval process. The BCI has made it clear the conditional approval will not regularise any earlier academic session or waive pending fees.

Of the 232 colleges added to the CET Cell’s CAP, applicants for the three-year LLB course will have another 126 colleges to choose from, taking the total number of colleges to 219, while the total number of seats has risen to 20,035, with 9,930 additional seats.

For the five-year LLB course, 106 colleges have been added. The number of colleges has increased from 56 to 162, with 5,610 additional seats. The total number of seats for the five-year course is now 11,565.
