Hundreds of protestors from ward 171 and 172 (covering Deonar and Govandi) had gathered outside the ward office as part of Congress’ protests in all 24 wards over various civic issues, including waterlogging, bad roads and potholes.

According to the police, a delegation went to the first floor of the ward office for a discussion with the civic officials. Apart from the complainant, executive engineer Anil Jadhav, assistant, deputy and junior engineers of several departments were present in the meeting.

When the discussion was going on various issues, Sayyad got up from his chair and threw ink on Jadhav’s face and ink spread on his shirt and even on walls behind him, senior inspector Rajesh Keval said, adding the Congress worker also threatened him with dire consequences if the pending works were not completed on time. The police officials present in the meeting immediately took Sayyad into custody and he was brought to the police station.

Later in the evening, based on the statement given by Jadhav, an FIR was registered and the accused were arrested, Kevale added.

The police have booked the accused under section 353 (assault on public servant), 506-2 (criminal intimidation) and various sections for rioting of the Indian Penal Code. The accused will be produced in court on Monday.
