Mumbai: A police constable has been suspended for allegedly making an obscene video of a colleague’s wife.

The suspended constable, identified as Abhijit Parab, was attached to the Local Arms (LA) unit of the Mumbai Police.
According to the police, the complainant and the accused stay in the same area. One day the complainant found that somebody had sent a video in one of the WhatsApp groups in which he was a member. He was shocked to find that it was a video of his wife and Parab had shot it. However, it was not clear as to who had circulated the same in the WhatsApp group.
The police said after Parab’s involvement in the crime was prima facie found, he was served a notice under section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) for appearance before a police officer by the Worli police after which a decision was taken to initiate a departmental enquiry against him and suspend him during pendency of the inquiry and a criminal case registered against him.
Senior police officials said Parab was suspended as his offence is serious and against women, and his behaviour was unethical.
“We have registered a case as per the complaint of the woman’s husband,” a police officer said. The police are trying to find out who circulated the video.
A case has been registered against Parab and an unknown mobile number holder under sections 500 (defamation), 292 (circulation of obscene books etc), 293 (circulation of obscene objects to young person), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 67 A (publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act, etc., in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act.
