THANE: A worker died on the spot on Wednesday after an old wall collapsed on him during renovation work in the OT Section of Ulhasnagar Camp No. 5. The incident has raised concerns over construction safety in the area.

The deceased, identified as Dnyaneshwar Somankar, was trapped under the debris. Local residents immediately rescued him and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Somankar’s family members, while expressing their grief, demanded accountability. “He was the sole breadwinner of the family. If proper safety measures had been taken, this wouldn’t have happened. Who will take responsibility of his family?” said family friend, Kiran Kadam.
Hill Line Police Station has registered an accidental death report and launched an investigation. Authorities are investigating whether proper safety measures were in place and identifying the people responsible for the incident.
“Proper precautions should have been taken before the demolition. Such accidents highlight the need for stricter safety measures at construction sites,” said a local resident.
