Cops trace woman with learning difficulty, recover jewellery worth over ₹11 lakh
An unknown person called the Thane police control number with the information that a woman was seated on a bench in front of a four-storey building since the previous night.
Thane: The Thane crime branch, on Tuesday, traced a 60-year-old woman who has learning difficulty and recovered gold ornaments worth ₹11 lakh from her.

On December 18, Ayeshibi Shaikh – a resident of Mumbra – left her home at 4 pm and took her gold jewellery of around 194 grams worth ₹11.70 lakh. According to officials, the woman often forgets things. Her husband lodged a missing complaint with the Mumbra police station.
“We circulated her pictures to different police groups and began scanning CCTV footage of railway stations and spotted her at Mumbra station,” said a police officer. “Through further information from her family members, we came to know that the woman knew some relatives from Thane, but did not go there since she is not well.”
She was untraceable. An unknown person called the Thane police control number with the information that a woman was seated on a bench in front of a four-storey building since the previous night and has been asking passersby to deliver her jewellery to her relative who stays on the ninth floor of the building.
A crime branch official said, “Our team immediately reached the location in front of Rutu Park society. The woman had left her jewellery bag on the bench, but she was not around.”
The official added that there was no building with nine floors in the vicinity.
“We collected the bag and kept looking for her. With the help of CCTVs, we were able to find her within two hours. She was found wandering in the same area. We have handed all the jewellery and reunited the woman with her family,” added the official.
