Man held for stalking female actor in Andheri
The police said that the victim is a 26-year-old married woman who has acted in Bengali and Hindi web series.
Mumbai: A 35-year-old man from Andheri was arrested on Sunday for allegedly stalking and harassing a model and web-series female actor through multiple social media platforms as well as in person.
The accused has been identified as Minarul Sheikh. The police said that the victim is a 26-year-old married woman who has acted in Bengali and Hindi web series.
“Earlier this year, Sheikh started sending obscene messages to the victim through a live-streaming chat app that she used to interact with her fans. When she blocked him there, he found her Instagram account and started sending her objectionable messages over there,” said a police officer from the DN Nagar police station.
The officer added that when the victim refused to respond or entertain him, Sheikh started to post defamatory content on Twitter. He tagged her and her husband.
“Things took a turn for the worse when Sheikh managed to get her contact number last month, and started calling and sending her text messages. The victim later learned that he also knew her address and was stalking her physically, after which she registered a complaint,” the officer said.
Based on a technical investigation, the police arrested Sheikh from his Andheri residence. He has been charged with stalking, outraging a woman’s modesty and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
Sheikh was produced in a holiday court and granted bail on Sunday afternoon. The police are now trying to find out how he got the victim’s contact number and whether he has committed similar crimes in the past.
