City to get hotter by the weekend

Mumbai to witness a rise in daytime temperature between May 12 and 14, with a maximum of 36°C on May 15, before settling at 33°C on May 16, as per IMD's forecast.

Mumbai: Daytime temperature in the city is expected to go up between May 12 and14, after which it may slightly come down, as per the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) seven-day forecast for Santacruz (Mumbai’s base weather station).

From 33.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, the temperature is likely to touch 36 degrees Celsius on Saturday, before settling at 33 degrees Celsius on May 16.

“An anticyclonic circulation has been building in the Arabian Sea, due to which sea breeze is getting more delayed by the day causing temperature to rise over the last two days in Konkan. Mumbai is actually the coolest place in the region. It becomes hotter if you get further away from the coast. Three stations recorded 40+ temperatures today - Badlapur (40.1 degrees Celsius), Karjat (42 degrees Celsius) and Murbad (42.4 degrees Celsius),” an official with the IMD’s regional centre in Mumbai said.

Stronger westerly winds, which are expected to occur under the ‘pull’ effect of cyclone Mocha in the Bay of Bengal, will likely reduce temperatures in the Konkan coast after May 13, the official added.
