Jharkhand: MLA wants ban on Chinese choppers after seven murderous attack in 11 days
At least seven murderous attacks have been reported in Jamshedpur during the past 11 days in which one person has died and eight others have been injured.

Jamshedpur (East) MLA Purnima Das Sahu has demanded a ban on Chinese choppers and butcher’s knives in the wake of a series of murderous attacks in Jamshedpur even as the city police has started contemplating some sort of regulations to curb this deadly disturbing trend, people aware of the matter said on Friday.
At least seven murderous attacks have been reported in Jamshedpur during the past 11 days in which one person has died and eight others have been injured.
“Atmosphere of fear and insecurity has enveloped Jamshedpur with a series of murderous attacks using Chinese choppers and butcher’s knife during the past few days. Death of a man in these attacks has been reported also. This is a matter of concern. Gravest concern is that school going boys are also found carrying these choppers. We demand to the city police and district administration to regulate such weapons and it’s easy availability. Bags of students must also be checked regularly by the school authorities,” Purnima Das Sahu told the media on Friday.
Jamshedpur city superintendent of police (SP) Kumar Shivashish said that they were already contemplating some sort of regulatory mechanism.
“There is no regulation on Chinese choppers or such meat chopping knives. It’s easily available in the market at cheap cost. It can be easily hidden and yet can be fatal with sharp edges. 37 choppers, two air pistols and a dummy gun have been seized under the Sonari police station (PS) during Ramnavami processions. We have acting tough on illegal guns as they are used more in murders. The result is 30% drop in gun related crimes. We had seized at least 140 guns last year and over 30 guns have been seized so far this year,” Shivashish told HT on Friday.
The city SP further informed that they were working on a guideline for the sellers of Chinese choppers and butcher’s knives.
“All the PS officer-in-charge (OCs) will ensure the compliance of this guideline under which verification of the sellers, keeping records of the buyers, ban on selling to such knives to minors and informing the police about suspicious buyers. Stringent actions will be taken against persons selling such sharp weapons without proper verification or in suspicious manner,” added the city SP.
