5,000 students to get free online coaching for competitive exams

The programme will be implemented through the six IAS pre-training centres under the department in Mumbai, Nashik, Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Amravati and Nagpur

Higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil on Thursday said that the Maharashtra government will provide free online coaching for competitive examinations to around 5,000 aspiring students.

“Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to provide free online coaching for competitive exams, we aim to make it accessible to students from both rural and urban areas,” Patil said.

The initiative has been taken in response to Modi’s Independence Day address on August 15.

The programme will be implemented through the six IAS pre-training centres under the department in Mumbai, Nashik, Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Amravati and Nagpur.

The state government on Thursday constituted a six-member committee under the directorate of higher education to prepare a detailed framework for the programme. The committee is chaired by the director of the Mumbai centre, with the Nagpur counterpart as the member-secretary and directors of Nashik, Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Amravati centres as members. The committee has been given 15 days to submit its final report.
