Pune bandh today against governor Koshyari's remark on Chhatrapati Shivaji

Opposition parties along with some other outfits in Pune have called for a bandh on Tuesday to condemn controversial remarks made by Maharashtra governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari about Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
The Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), Sambhaji Brigade, and other organisations have declared a bandh in which all shops will be closed till 3pm on Tuesday. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), AIMIM, Janata Dal, Vanchit Bahujan Agadi, and Shetkari Kamgar will also participate.

Last month, governor Koshyari sparked outrage by referring to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as an "icon of olden times". Later, he expressed regret for the remarks, claiming that they were misconstrued. However, the opposition parties and certain Maratha outfits have been calling for his resignation.
The governor's remarks drew widespread condemnation from across the state. The parties have unanimously called for a bandh in the city because no action has been taken against the governor for his remarks

In the midst of the controversy surrounding his remarks about Maratha king Shivaji, Maharashtra governor B S Koshyari has written a letter on Monday to Union home minister Amit Shah clarifying his position and seeking the latter's advice on the matter.
According to PTI, Fatehchand Ranka, president of the Federation of Traders Associations of Pune (FATP) on Thursday said that the office-bearers of the three parties and the Sambhaji Brigade had appealed to the traders' body to support the bandh called to condemn the governor's statements. "Following these parties' appeal, an internal meeting of all federation members was held, and it was decided to support the bandh by keeping the shops closed until 3 pm on Tuesday," Ranka said.
