Unaided colleges should complete NAAC accreditation on priority: Minister

Pune: The higher technical education department has urged permanently unaided colleges across the state to prioritise National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation, saying quality assessment has remained low among such institutions.

Higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil reviewed issues faced by permanently unaided colleges at the meeting attended by representatives of the Maharashtra Unaided Colleges Association on July 22.

According to the department, Maharashtra has 3,829 colleges, of which 2,598 are permanently unaided and 1,231 receive government aid.

As part of the implementation of NEP 2020, Patil urged colleges to take proactive steps to strengthen internship opportunities for students and ensure timely registration of students for APAAR ID and the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC ID) at the time of admission.
