According to the police, the woman’s husband left home around 7 pm on Thursday for his night shift at a company. He returned around 8 am on Friday and found the house locked from inside. When his wife and son did not respond to his calls, he sought help from a neighbour.

They opened a window and saw the boy hanging inside the house.

Narayan Pawar, inspector, Baramati Taluka Police Station, said the boy was found hanging from a metal structure with a rope, while his mother was lying on her back near a window in the same room. A dark mark resembling a rope mark was visible around her neck.

The two were taken to Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Government Medical College and General Hospital in Baramati, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

“Prima facie, the deaths appear to be suspected suicides. However, the reason behind the incident and the exact circumstances leading to the deaths are yet to be ascertained,” Pawar said.

Police received a call about the incident around 8.30 am. They have registered an accidental death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
