Vidisha is one of the 29 Lok Sabha constituencies of Madhya Pradesh.
This is the seat from where External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj had won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections by defeating her closest contestant Lakshman Singh of the Congress by a margin of 410,698 votes.
This time around, with Swaraj opting out of the electoral battle, the BJP had fielded Ramakant Bhargav as its candidate against Congress’s Shailendra Patel.
The BJP was banking on the work done by Swaraj in the constituency to help it return to power, while the Congress was hoping to turn the tables in this seat in Madhya Pradesh.
