Hong Kong have named a 20-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to 28. This will be the team’s fifth appearance in the tournament, following previous campaigns in 2004, 2008, 2018 and 2022.
The side will be led by captain Yasim Murtaza, with Babar Hayat serving as vice-captain. The selectors have opted for a balanced mix of experience and youth, including key players such as Anshuman Rath, Nizakat Khan, Aizaz Khan, Ehsan Khan, Kinchit Shah, Ayush Shukla and Haroon Arshad. Among them, Babar Hayat holds a special distinction, being one of only two batters to score a century in the Asia Cup T20, the other being India’s Virat Kohli.
Head coach Kaushal Silva underlined the team’s determination ahead of the competition. "Each player has to earn their spot. We are not here to participate; we are here to compete, win games, and enjoy the experience," he said.
To prepare for the tournament, Hong Kong held a training camp in the UAE from August 24. The camp will featured competitive matches and intensive practice sessions designed to sharpen skills and strengthen team unity.
Placed in Group B, Hong Kong will begin their campaign against Afghanistan on September 9 in Abu Dhabi. It will then face Bangladesh on September 11, also in Abu Dhabi, before playing Sri Lanka on September 15 in Dubai.
Hong Kong last featured in the Asia Cup in 2022, a T20 edition where it was grouped with India and Pakistan. Despite fighting displays, the team was unable to progress beyond the group stage.
