The Asia Cup 2025 will feature a total of eight teams. The five full members of the Asian Cricket Council - Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka - have automatically qualified for the tournament. They will be joined by United Arab Emirates, Oman and Hong Kong, who earned their spots by finishing among the top three in the 2024 ACC Men’s Premier Cup.

For the group stage, the teams have been divided into two groups. Group A includes India, Oman, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. Group B consists of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka.

The 2025 edition will be played in a new format. Each team will play the other three teams in its group once. The top two sides from each group will then move on to the Super Four stage. In the Super Four, all four teams will face each other in a round-robin format. The two best-performing teams from this stage will qualify for the final, where the champions of Asia Cup 2025 will be decided.

This format ensures that every match is important, as even small differences in results can affect qualification for the later rounds.

The Asia Cup 2025 will be the 17th edition of the tournament. It is scheduled to begin on September 9, 2025, and the final will be played on September 28, 2025. This year, the event returns to the T20I format. Asia Cup 2025 will be jointly hosted by Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Out of the 19 matches to be played, 11 matches, including the final, will be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The remaining eight matches will take place at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

India is the most successful nation in Asia Cup history, with eight titles - seven in ODIs and one in T20Is. Sri Lanka follows closely with six titles, while Pakistan has won the trophy twice.

In 2022, the Asia Cup was last played in the T20I format, and Sri Lanka emerged as champions after defeating Pakistan in the final. The 2023 edition, held in the ODI format, saw India lift the trophy.
