Commentary

5:55 PM IST Right then, a contest that promised so much to begin with and even sprung up a surprise with SRH dominating DC, has ended up being a washout. There's plenty of action still to come in the 2025 IPL season, as teams vying for the top four spots go up against each other over the next couple of weeks. This run of fixtures kicks off with Mumbai Indians taking on Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, 6 May, and that should be a mouth-watering clash. The game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but you can join us a lot sooner for the build-up. Cheers!
5:52 PM IST Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, will be thanking the Gods as the rain intervention has guaranteed them a point which would have been very, very difficult to come by otherwise. They lost a wicket on the very first ball of the match and were 4 down inside the Powerplay. It still was more than a decent recovery thanks to the lower middle order and especially the Impact Sub, Ashutosh Sharma, who took them over the 130-run mark along with Tristan Stubbs. Mitchell Starc and co would have their work cut out with the ball, but it didn't matter as DC stay well and truly alive in the top four race.
5:46 PM IST What a shame! The Orange Army flocked to the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium to watch their team, and it was a packed house even after SRH's abysmal season thus far. And for once, SRH seemed all but certain of a win, and yet, rain had the final say. It was a stellar bowling performance from the Sunrisers led by Pat Cummins. He was the one who picked up the top 3 batters of DC inside the Powerplay and even pouched the catch for the 4th wicket. The SRH pacers continued to pick up wickets in the middle overs and managed to keep DC to an under-par score. SRH will now look to just let loose in the remaining games and spoil the party for a few other teams.
5:42 PM IST MATCH ABANDONED! Both teams get a point each and Sunrisers Hyderabad have been officially knocked out of the playoff race. Delhi Capitals stay 5th with 13 points, one point off the top 4 and the playoff race is really starting to heat up now.
5:40 PM IST UPDATE - 11.08 pm IST (5.38 pm GMT) - It has been about 20-25 minutes since the mop-up job began, but there are still plenty of areas of concern on the outfield. The two umpires are having a prolonged discussion with the ground staff as they don't want to risk any injuries, especially at this stage of the tournament. The broadcasters did mention that there will be an update in a few minutes' time, but the live visuals show the two skippers shaking hands. The thing everyone feared has happened!
5:08 PM IST UPDATE - 10.36 pm IST (5.06 pm GMT) - Live visuals from the ground show that the rain has stopped in Hyderabad! However, the ground has a lot of water on it and the umpires are having a conversation with the ground staff, who will now get working overtime. The Super-Sopper is also out and it is now a race against time to get the ground fit for play. Stay tuned.
4:54 PM IST UPDATE - 10.23 pm IST (4.53 pm GMT) - Not much of an update regarding the status of the game, but worst case scenario, a five-over chase can start by around 11.40-11.45 pm IST.  The main concern remains the condition of the playing field and there isn't any word of the rain completely stopping either thus far.
4:49 PM IST UPDATE - 10.05 pm IST (4.35 pm GMT) - The rain has subsided a bit but it is quite steady and with parts of the ground still uncovered, a few serious puddles have formed, which will be a challenge if and when the rain stops. Also, from the start of the game, generally, a game should conclude in 3 hours and 20 minutes. Add another 60 minutes to that, and factoring in the actual time the first innings ended, there's still plenty of time, but time can tick by quickly in such situations. Let's stay hopeful and stick around for further updates.
4:23 PM IST UPDATE - 9.45 pm IST (4.15 pm GMT) - Well, it is pouring heavily now in Hyderabad, with the rain intensifying every passing minute. The chase would have started by now, but worry not, we have still got 60 minutes of buffer time before we start losing overs. If this match ends in an unfortunate washout, Sunrisers Hyderabad will be eliminated from the playoff race, as with one point from here, the max they would reach is 13 points. From DC's perspective, they haven't won matches lately and would find some relief by getting one point, at least, from a washout, with the total they have on the board.
4:05 PM IST UPDATE - 9.34 pm IST (4.04 pm GMT) - Not a piece of pleasing news at all, folks! As the live visuals show, the rain has gotten a bit heavier now. It started with a slight drizzle, which we hoped would stop sooner, but now it seems that we have to wait a bit longer for the second innings to begin. As things stand, the covers are firmly placed on the pitch and the squares. Let's hope that the rain stops as quickly as possible. Stay tuned for further updates.
3:59 PM IST Well then, 134 is the magic number for the Sunrisers to register their fourth win of the season. Delhi Capitals on the other hand, face a very challenging task, because if they fail to defend this total, their position in the points table will be under jeopardy. It all depends on their new-ball bowlers to start well, and for that DC will bank upon their ace pacer, Mitchell Starc. But as the live visuals show, the covers have come out as there's a slight drizzle out there in Hyderabad. Not at all a heavy downpour, and we hope that it is just that passing shower which subsides pretty soon. Stay tuned.
3:55 PM IST SRH's Jaydev Unadkat is down for a chat. He says that the way the first over went, the plan was to always bowl into the pitch. Adds that the basic plan towards the death was the same, but they also tried to mix it up, and getting crucial wickets at the right time was also helpful. Reckons that towards the end, the pitch started to get better and a few drops of rain have started to fall as well. Hopefully, the spinners won't come into play. On his dismissal of KL Rahul, Unadkat mentions that you need to have some tricks up your sleeve, including the change of angle.
3:55 PM IST Both strung a crucial recovery stand and, more importantly, with some intent, and gave some impetus to the DC's faltering innings. Given their deplorable condition at the 10-over mark, they desperately needed this boost towards the end as the two completed a solid 66-run stand. Of course, this is way below the par score, but anything above run-a-ball, gives the bowlers something to fight at.
3:53 PM IST The core of the Capitals' batting lineup suffered a devastating blow when both Axar Patel and KL Rahul departed in quick succession. Left isolated in this wreckage, Tristan Stubbs faced a herculean recovery task. In a desperate attempt to post something remotely defendable on the scoreboard, Ashutosh Sharma joined as the Impact Sub alongside Stubbs and brought in that much-needed refreshing intent.
3:52 PM IST Delhi Capitals plunged into crisis mode instantly, losing their top three batters in the blink of an eye to Pat Cummins' clinical opening spell. The SRH pacers constantly hit those back-of-length areas and got good support from the pitch. With momentum firmly in the home side's grasp, the visitors stumbled to a disastrous 26/4 by the end of the Powerplay, caught in a Catch-22.
3:51 PM IST A good fightback from Delhi Capitals towards the backend has helped them to breach the 130-run mark. 47 runs came in the last five overs, which isn't too many, but given how DC were crawling their way as even crossing triple figures looked like a tough job for them, this will provide them with some solace. But overall, a job well done by the SRH bowlers as they were right on the money throughout and consolidated the dominance.
11:44 AM IST Have to say, this has been a bit of a bizarre run for the Delhi Capitals. They started the season strongly but towards the end, seem to be faltering a bit.
11:43 AM IST Oopss.. it has just started to spit a little bit now. Hopefully, this does not affect the second innings.

Eshan Malinga to Tristan Stubbs, 4 runs

FOUR! DC end on a positive note but it doesn't seem to be nearly enough. Eshan Malinga goes full again and looks to sling the ball across the off stump. Tristan Stubbs sets up deep in the crease and clubs it away wide enough of long on to find the fence. Delhi Capitals finish with 133/7 on the board!

1
19.5

Eshan Malinga to Mitchell Starc, 1 run

ballImg113.6kph

Full and straight, nails it in the blockhole, Mitchell Starc can only jam it out and scamper through for one. A direct hit at the bowler's end would have been curtains for Starc.

3:46 PM IST Mitchell Starc is in at 9.
W
19.4

Eshan Malinga to Ashutosh Sharma, no run

ballImg97.7kph

OUT! CAUGHT! Excellent bowling and Eshan Malinga does get a wicket as well. Bowls it slower, and well short around off. Ashutosh Sharma tries to fetch it and force the pull but has to generate his own pace and can't quite get on top of the bounce either. The ball gets lofted towards deep mid-wicket where Abhinav Manohar takes a simple catch and a fine fighting knock from Sharma comes to an end. He made 41 off 26 balls!

Harshal Patel to Tristan Stubbs, no run

ballImg112.8kph

A dot to end and 9 off the 19th over is a job well done by Harshal. Another slower bumper, dug in well short and outside off. Stubbs walks well past the off stump, trying to pull it fine but misses.

LB
18.5

Harshal Patel to Ashutosh Sharma, 1 run

Ashutosh is probably better off backing his strength rather than attempting these cheeky shots. Good length, wide outside off, Sharma shuffles well across and looks to lap but gets hit on the back pad. They scamper through for a leg bye.

Zeeshan Ansari to Tristan Stubbs, 1 run

Landed outside off, on a length, Tristan Stubbs rocks back and punches it to long off for a single.

3:19 PM IST Strategic Break! Just 6 overs left in the first innings and the Capitals are nowhere near posting a defendable score on board. SRH did the job inside the Powerplay and they can now control the game, but they still need to be looking for wickets as a score of around 150 could turn this into an actual contest. Can Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma pull off a miracle and take DC to a fighting total? Let's find out. SRH also use their Impact Sub to bring on Travis Head and out goes Jaydev Unadkat who is done with his 4 overs.

Zeeshan Ansari to Tristan Stubbs, 1 run

OUT! RUN OUT! A huge communication mix-up between the batters and DC lose another wicket here. Zeeshan Ansari slides on the middle and leg stump line, on a dragged length, Tristan Stubbs hangs back and tucks it with soft hands to the mid-wicket region. They run the first one comfortably as the ball rolls towards the deep, which is chased and picked by Aniket Verma who runs in from deep mid-wicket. Vipraj Nigam completes the run and is stuck at the batting end, nowhere interested in taking the double, but Tristan Stubbs from the other end taps the bat and rushes to the keeper's end for the second run. However, Vipraj is caught ball-watching and stands still. Stubbs crosses him at the batting end as Aniket Verma throws it towards the bowler, Zeeshan Ansari, and he collects the ball and casually breaks the stumps. The umpires confirm that it is Vipraj Nigam who is run out as Stubbs went past him before the stumps were broken by Ansari.

3:07 PM IST A bit of confusion out there! Vipraj Nigam has been given Run-Out and is walking back to the pavilion but the umpires want to confirm that the batters had crossed each other. It is sent to the third umpire and it is eventually confirmed that Vipraj is the man who is OUT.

2:54 PM IST STRATEGIC BREAK. The Sunrisers couldn't have asked for a better start than this. We are not even halfway through the first innings, and their bowlers have broken the back of DC's batting unit. With the big guns like Faf, Axar, and KL Rahul, all gone, Delhi Capitals look upon Tristan Stubbs to provide some solace to their turbulent innings. Pat Cummins initiated the streak of breakthroughs with three wickets to his name, constantly bashing that back of a length, and the rest of the pacers, too, have complemented their skipper pretty nicely. Sunrisers Hyderabad will try to get Stubbs out quickly and look to restrict DC below triple figures. Here's Zeeshan Ansari into the attack now. He replaces Jaydev Unadkat.

Eshan Malinga to Vipraj Nigam, 1 run

ballImg111.2kph

Gets away with it again, does Vipraj Nigam! Eshan Malinga attempts that slower yorker again and ends up bowling a full toss on middle and leg. However, this one dips late and Nigam is almost completely undone as he swings across the line. In the end, the ball gets lofted over the infield and two fielders from square leg and deep mid-wicket converge but it falls safely. Just a single then.

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Jaydev Unadkat gets into the wicket-taking act now and this is a huge wicket as well. Unadkat comes around the wicket and spears in a very full delivery around the off stump, gets it to straighten late. KL Rahul stays put and just looks to drive through covers. The ball, though, ends up taking a thick outside edge and goes low to the right of the keeper. Ishan Kishan dives across and pouches it brilliantly. Rahul departs for just 10 (14) and DC have lost half their side for just 29 runs.

OUT! CAUGHT! Pat Cummins can do no wrong, it seems! Excellent change-up from Harshal Patel as he takes pace off and bowls it on a fuller length around off. Axar Patel looks to hit through the line, but he is through his shot way too early. One hand comes off the handle and the ball gets skewed up over wide mid off. Pat Cummins to Karun Nair, no run

ballImg137.0kph

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! What a delivery to begin with from the SRH skipper! The crowd erupts at Uppal as DC lose their first wicket in the very first delivery! A proper Test match length from Cummins, hard length, outside off, slightly nipping away from the batter, with a good bit of bounce on it. Karun Nair rises with the bounce to punch into the off side, but plays it a bit lose with no proper footwork, and plays it away from the body. A thick and healthy outside edge is found and Ishan Kishan does the rest behind the wickets. Karun Nair's lean run continues as he departs for a golden duck.

1:59 PM IST We are all set for this game to begin! It is a sea of orange as usual inside the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium as the two umpires make their way out to the middle. They are followed by the SRH players who stride out and take their places on the field. It will be the duo of Faf du Plessis and Karun Nair to open the innings for DC. SRH skipper, Pat Cummins will take the new ball himself and he is raring to go. Let's play...
1:46 PM IST The captain of Delhi Capitals, Axar Patel, says that they were also looking to bowl first as it looks like a good wicket. Adds that they will look to get a good score and restrict them and the last phase is here and these are must-win games. Mentions that they've tried to keep the environment light. Says that they've had different players contribute, and they are not dependent on one player. Informs that they have no change in the combination of the team.
1:47 PM IST The captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pat Cummins, says that they will bowl first. Adds that they haven't had a complete game yet and want to do the basics right. Mentions that it is about giving yourself a chance, and they do bat quite deep. Reckons that the crowd has been amazing, even though the results haven't gone their way, and they want to be buzzing around and be energetic in the field.
1:35 PM IST Impact player options for DC - Ashutosh Sharma, Mohit Sharma, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sameer Rizvi, Mukesh Kumar.
1:40 PM IST Delhi Capitals (Playing XI) - Faf du Plessis, Karun Nair, Abishek Porel (WK), KL Rahul, Axar Patel (C), Tristan Stubbs, Vipraj Nigam, Mitchell Starc, Dushmantha Chameera, Kuldeep Yadav, T Natarajan (In for Mukesh Kumar).
1:34 PM IST Impact player options for SRH - Mohammad Shami, Harsh Dubey, Travis Head, Rahul Chahar, Wiaan Mulder.
1:38 PM IST Sunrisers Hyderabad (Playing XI) - Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (WK), Sachin Baby (In for Nitish Kumar Reddy), Heinrich Klaasen, Aniket Verma, Abhinav Manohar (In for Kamindu Mendis), Pat Cummins (C), Harshal Patel, Zeeshan Ansari, Eshan Malinga (In for Mohammad Shami), Jaydev Unadkat.
1:31 PM IST TOSS UPDATE - The flip of the coin lands in favor of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Pat Cummins elects to BOWL first.
1:21 PM IST PITCH REPORT - WV Raman and Shane Watson are inspecting the pitch in Hyderabad. WV begins by informing the dimensions, and says it's equidistant at 66 meters on either side of the square and 76 meters down the ground. Watto joins him and informs it is a red soil pitch, and adds that there will be some extra pace and bounce, with some potential turn as well. Observes that there is no grass cover at all and it is hard and dry. Highlights that LSG and SRH played on this pitch where 190 was scored by the home team, and was chased down by the Super Giants in the 16th over itself. Hence, he expects the wicket to go through nicely and reckons there won't be much turn, expecting a high scoring game. WV then points out that the average score has been more than 200 on this surface. Watson then concludes that he is expecting a lot of runs.
1:09 PM IST SRH's home record sits at a modest two wins from five games. Whereas, DC has thrived on the road, claiming four victories from five away fixtures this season. This balanced contest could see DC leap into the top four with a convincing win, while defeat would invite pressure from teams below. They can't afford to lose ground in this tightly-packed playoff race. The Capitals claimed bragging rights when these sides met in Vizag earlier this season, giving SRH added motivation for revenge. With playoff dreams hanging in the balance, expect fireworks in Hyderabad. Stay tuned for toss and team announcements shortly.
1:08 PM IST Delhi Capitals will look to their talented but inconsistent batting lineup that has recently faltered collectively despite occasional individual brilliance. KL Rahul remains their batting cornerstone, but desperately needs support from teammates. Captain Axar Patel's contributions across both departments provide a positive sign. Their bowling attack, featuring numerous international stars, has leaked runs, conceding 200+ in three of their last six outings. This problem is cyclical as batters aren't posting competitive totals, while bowlers struggle to contain opposition batting lineups.
1:07 PM IST SRH's disappointing season stems from shortcomings in both batting and bowling departments, though their batting struggles are particularly glaring. Apart from Head and Abhishek's explosive 171-run opening partnership against PBKS, their top order has consistently underperformed. Ishan Kishan exemplifies their inconsistency further – after hammering 106 against RR, he's managed just 90 runs in his next nine appearances. Heinrich Klaasen has been their reliable performer, though often fighting a lone battle alongside Abhishek as the only other SRH batter to surpass 300 runs. Their bowling unit, despite considerable international experience, has proven expensive, while their weak spin options further compound their troubles as out of 7 defeats, five have come while defending their totals.
1:06 PM IST Delhi Capitals began the season as the tournament's pacesetters, winning their first four matches. With just two wins from their subsequent six encounters, one via super over, DC's campaign appears to have lost its early spark. Sitting on 12 points after 10 games, they're urgently searching for their winning formula. For Sunrisers Hyderabad, reality is harsh – every remaining match is essentially a knockout. They could theoretically reach 14 points from their final four fixtures, but they'll need favorable results elsewhere as well. One more defeat and their 2025 journey reaches a premature end.
1:02 PM IST Hello, everyone! The Indian Premier League, 2025 rolls into a new week as the season intensifies further with every match, and every win and defeat, holding its own weightages. We move down to the south as Hyderabad hosts a crucial clash in Match 55, between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals. Both teams faced a defeat in their previous games and desperately need a win to keep their playoff flames ignited.
1:00 PM IST ... MATCH DAY ...
10:25 PM IST We’re entering the business end of IPL 2025, and every match now feels like a knockout! The heat is on as Sunrisers Hyderabad take on Delhi Capitals in a clash with massive playoff implications. SRH are clinging onto hopes of survival, while DC are desperate to regain their early-season spark. Expect drama, intensity, and high-quality cricket as both sides fight for momentum at this crucial stage. Sunrisers Hyderabad, last season’s finalists, haven’t quite found their groove this year. The explosive opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who once sent chills down bowling attacks, haven’t quite delivered the fireworks fans hoped for. Heinrich Klaasen has carried much of the batting load in the middle order, but their dependence on a handful of players has hurt them. Pat Cummins’ leadership and all-round ability add value, but SRH just haven’t clicked as a unit consistently. Harshal Patel has been their standout performer with the ball, regularly striking at key moments. However, the lack of an experienced spinner has been a gap they’re yet to fill. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, burst out of the blocks with four wins from their first five games, but things have taken a turn with only one victory in their last four. Under Axar Patel’s calm and resourceful captaincy, the team has shown resilience but now faces a critical test of character. Abishek Porel has been delivering the quick starts while Faf du Plessis, after returning from injury has hit form immediately and KL Rahul has been their most consistent batters scoring runs for fun. However, the likes of Karun Nair and and Tristan Stubbs, must rise to the occasion and shoulder more responsibility. With the ball, Delhi have a solid unit - Mitchell Starc may not have been at his lethal best yet, but still has 14 wickets to his name and remains a big threat. Dushmantha Chameera and Mukesh Kumar have been steady, and in the spin department, Axar and Kuldeep Yadav form one of the most reliable and intelligent pairs in the league. DC might not have the momentum right now, but their squad is too talented to be counted out. With playoff hopes hanging in the balance, expect nerves, noise, and non-stop action. One team looking to reignite, the other trying to survive - this one promises fireworks.
