India vs New Zealand Highlights, 1st Test, Day 3: IND reach 14/1 at Stumps to lead by 63 runs; Axar shines with 5-fer

Two wickets in two successive overs from Axar Patel and the pressure is now on New Zealand. A poor shot selection costs Henry Nicholls his wicket and wicketkeeper-batter Tom Blundell joins Latham at the crease.

NZ 218/4 in 97 overs

Axar strikes again! New Zealand lose their first review as Henry Nicholls falls on 2. The left-hander goes for an adventurous sweep but completely misses the line on a marginally fuller delivery. That's plumb. Umpire's call on point of impact and Nicholls has to go.

Tom Latham holds one end but wickets fall at a quick rate on the other. Two left-handers on the crease now. Ashwin's first over since Lunch fetches 2.

Ravichandran Ashwin replaces Umesh Yadav from the media end.

Ross Taylor departs! The ball keeps low and Taylor finds a big outside edge. Another straight delivery which further straightens after pitching near the fourth stump line, keeps low and Taylor nicks it. Bharat with a good catch.

No Ashwin or Jadeja with the new ball so far as Axar continues after the start of second session. The left-armer is finding a bit of turn.

Short midwicket and silly mid-on for Taylor against Umesh Yadav. The length has largely been short for the New Zealand veteran so far.

Tom Latham wary against Umesh Yadav, not bothering any delivery outside off at all. Fends off a fairly disciplined over from Umesh.

The low bounce on the pitch keeps Ross Taylor guessing against the short-pitched deliveries. The third ball, pitched short, goes past Taylor's helmet while the fifth, pitched in a similar area, rises up till his chest as the batter remains in two minds and barely survives nicking it.

NZ 209/2 in 90 overs

Ross Taylor stepping out against Axar on a number of occasions, so the left-armer darts a straight one onto him. Taylor barely manages to get the bat on it and finds an inside-edge. KS Bharat, seemingly blinded by the action up front, fails to collect the ball. 

NZ 207/2 in 89 overs

Two runs off his first in this session. Induces a thick edge off Latham, which indicates that the left-armer is finding some turn off the pitch today, unlike on Day 2.

NZ 203/2 in 87 overs

Nice flick off a fuller delivery to get off the mark. Taylor just leans on the delivery, gives it a gentle push towards midwicket as New Zealand cross 200.

NZ 201/2 in 86 overs

The players return for the second session of Day 3.

Umesh Yadav strikes at the stroke of Lunch and it's the big fish Kane Williamson who departs without inflicting much trouble on Indians. A shared first session with India having a rough edge on the Kiwis, largely due to the key wicket of NZ skipper.

And he strikes! Or does he? Williamson takes the review after he is adjudged LBW! And he's out! Three reds. 

The New Zealand captain departs on 18.

After an over from seamer with the old ball, Rahane finally takes the new one with around five minutes remaining for Lunch.

Latham nicely places a wide, short-pitched delivery from Umesh towards third-man for a boundary. After bowling marginally short in his first four balls, Umesh pushes his length a bit.

A little delayed, but Umesh Yadav finally gets his first over of the day. He replaces Axar Patel from river end.

Latham releases some pressure with a lofted shot over mid-on. India's alarmed fielding efforts had been building pressure on the Kiwi batters but Latham takes the aerial route against Axar. Four off the over.

NZ 192/1 in 82 overs

The commentators on-air confirm that the umpire's inhibitions about going across the pitch was over blocking the non-striker's path for a quick single. Since Ashwin cannot inform ahead of the delivery if he will be moving across, it is difficult for the non-striker to pre-meditate and position himself away from the pitch as well.

New ball due for India now. Axar concedes two off the over.

Ashwin's stride seems to be causing a problem with umpire Nitin Menon's vision. The off-spinner goes across the pitch after bowling the delivery and even as he's not stepping on the danger zone, it might be hampering with the umpire's vision.

The first delivery to Kane barely misses the off-stump after going past Williamson's front-foot defence, and the third doesn't carry to slip. New Zealand players feeling the heat here. 1 run off the over.

That was plumb and India didn't take a review. Ashwin and India might have had a second wicket. Umpire Nitin Menon with a rare inconsistent outing in this Test. Tom Latham survives!
