India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Highlights: Dasun Shanaka scores century in defeat as IND beat SL by 67 runs

Dhananjaya ends the 16th over in a rather regal way. First he throws his bat at a quick and wide delivery and it races away to the boundary behind. Then he whips out a drive to mid-off. Sri Lanka 74/3 in 16 overs. 

Umran has strangled Assalanka down the leg side, gets only an edge and Rahul takes the catch behind the stumps. He doesn't take a review and that is that for him. Charith Asalanka c Rahul b Umran Malik 23 (28), Sri Lanka 64/3 in 14 overs.

Umran Malik returns for the 14th over and Nissanka with a lovely checked punch over the bowler's head for a boundary. He has moved to 25 off as many. 

Now what can the thunderbolt from Kashmir do here. Sri Lanka are 50/2 in 11 overs, Umran replaces Siraj, whose fantastic spell comes to an end.

Sri Lanka's required rate is creeping closer and closer to 8.50 and their current rate is 3.80. They have a real mountain to climb. 

Hardik Pandya bowls in the powerplay and it turned out to be quit a good over. Just one run off it. 

Nissanka drives the second ball of the over straight past Siraj to the boundary. Sri Lanka need many more of those. 

Siraj has stats of 2/6 in three overs which may have already taken the game away from Sri Lanka. Just extraordinary opening burst from the pacer. 

Mendis tries an expansive drive and the ball goes right between bat and pad and crashes on to the stumps. Mendis had dropped Kohli earlier in the match behind the stumps and so his horror day has come to an end in a disappointing way. Mendis b Mohammed Siraj 0 (4), Sri Lanka 23/2 in 5/3 overs 

The fourth over by Siraj was a wicket maiden and then the first ball of the fifth bowled by Shami is sent to the boundary by Nissanka. 

Fernando splices it high up in the air. Pandya stations himself under the ball which goes very high indeed, and makes no mistake with the catch.

Fernando has made four in six, Nissanka is on eight off six. This has been a fairly good start for Sri Lanka. 

Short and wide from Shami, and that is smashed through covers for another four.

Pathum Nissanka crunches the second ball of the first over bowled by Shami through covers for the first boundary of the Sri Lankan innings. They need so many more of those. 

…saw India chase down a target of 323 against the West Indies in October 2018. Shimron Hetmyer's 106 off 78 balls helped the West Indies score 322/8. Well, as it turned out, that was just too small a total for Indians. While India had an early scare as they lost Shikhar Dhawan in the second over, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli then put up a partnership of 246 runs in just 188 balls to take the game away from the West Indies. Rohit played through the innings, ending unbeaten on 152 off 117 balls while Kohli scored 140 off 107 before falling to Devendra Bishoo. India ended up winning the match by eight wickets with nearly eight full overs to spare.

I have had a bit of break, and a couple of practice sessions coming into this game, so I was fresh after that Bangladesh tour. I was excited for the home season to start. The openers allowed me to get into the game and I tried to keep my strike rate in check. I was happy I was able to maintain the tempo and we finished with 370. I would take those (dropped chances) any day. Luck plays a big part, you need to thank god on such evenings. These evenings are important, pretty aware of that. Thankful that I made the most of that luck presented to me. I helped the team get 20 runs extra, rather than 350. It's going to be the same thing. Someone will have to score a 150, or 140 to chase this down. But it also gives our bowlers a chance to bowl with dew coming into play. I am quite aware of what I eat, diet is the most important thing at this age. That keeps me in prime shape. That helps me give my 100 percent for the team.

Six runs off the last over to take India past 370. This will take some chasing from the Sri Lankans and it will be a good match if they manage to give any kind of fight. It all started with Rohit and Gill putting up a show. Then, it was all about Kohli with some side shows from Shreyas Iyer and then, more prominently, KL Rahul. 

Final over then, let's see what Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj can get up to here. 

Kohli goes for the big slog, top edges it and the ball goes soaring into the night sky. Mendis claims it loudly, looking quite precarious as he hovers beneath the ball but manages to hold on. They get Kohli at last but the damage has been done.

Short one, Axar goes for a wild slash and sends it straight into the hands of the point fielder. India are 362/7 in 47.5 overs.

Memories of Sri Lanka being absolutely flawless in the field are very faint now. They have been woeful in the last 15 overs, especially against anything from Kohli's bat. Kohli goes just over the bowler Karunaratne's head, the fielder at long on should have stopped it but it goes through his legs. India have got to 360 in 47.2 overs. 

A single does the job. He went over three years without a century and now, he has got two in consecutive matches. Raises his hand as he runs the single and then the helmet comes off as he soaks in the applause. He has reached the mark in just 80 balls, a masterful century if there was any. 

First ball of the 47th, Kohli reaches out for it and flat bats it to the boundary. He is one run away from a second consecutive century. 

Kohli has reached 92 off 75 balls. He has gone past 12,500 career runs in ODIs and is the fastest to have done so. Kohli has reached the mark in 257 innings while Sachin Tendulkar, who previously held the record, had taken 310. 

Rajitha sends it wide and slow and Pandya goes after it. He ends up holing out at long-on. Axas ratel now comes in and he he has the freedom to play the kind of innings he had done in the second T20I against Sri Lanka.
