India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Highlights: Dasun Shanaka scores century in defeat as IND beat SL by 67 runs

Wellalage has conceded 19 runs in that over. Tosses the last ball up, Rohit steps down the pitch and lofts it over the bowler's head for another maximum. India are 137/0 in 19 overs. 

Somebody stop him! Shubman Gill has got to 65 off 57 with a single off the fourth ball after those three fours off Dunith Wellalage. 

He has got there in 51 balls. India are 114/0 in 17.2 overs. As strong as it gets. 

…and Virat Kohli has to hilariously sit back down in the Indian dug out.

This partnership stands at 108 off 97 balls. Rohit is on 61 off 51, Gill is on 46 off 45. Sri Lanka are scratching their heads here, they cannot let this continue and they need at last 2 wickets as quickly as possible. 

100-run opening partnership that has come in just 14.5 overs. It is exactly the kind of start India needed if they are to bat out any advantage that Sri Lanka may have later on with dew. 

47th ODI half century for the Indian captain. Full leg break from Hasaranga, Rohit goes down on a knee and sweeps it past deep backward square. He has reached 51 in 41 balls. 

Both Rohit and Gill have had close calls against Wanindu Hasaranga now. This time the Sri Lankans go for an appeal off the second last ball of the 11th over. Umpire shakes his head and Shanaka goes for the review. Rohit plays for the turn but it doesn't and hits him on the back pad. Ball tracking shows that it has missed the inside edge and would have gone on to click the stumps but the umpire's call is upheld! India 78/0 in 11 overs. 

Lucky for Gill. Wanindu Hasaranga is the bowler, sending in the first over of spin. Gill played for the leg break but the ball doesn't turn, it takes the inside edge and goes to fine leg for four. 

Off the next ball! What an over this is for India. Rajitha not helping himself at all by bowling short. Another pull, this time past deep square leg and Rohit is flying now. 

0, 6, 0, 6 is how this seventh over has gone. A higher bouncer, Rohit pulls again and it goes into the stands. India are 54/0 in 6.4 overs!

Just short of a length from Rajitha, Rohit steps out and does that pull shot thing that he has perfected in all these years. It might be a shot that the Sri Lankans can try and let him not play. 

A shout for LBW off the last ball of that over which the umpire turned down. Shanaka goes for the review, however, and as it turns out, the ball was going well down the leg side. India are 35/0 in four overs, Rohit on 14 off 13, Gill is on 21 off 11.

Couple of big overs for India. This time it is Shubman Gill who is doing the hitting against Madushanka in the fourth over. But these were not really off bad deliveries. The second ball of the over kicks up off a length, Gill rides the bounce and punches it between point and cover. He gets on top of the bounce again and punches the third delivery past point and then for the best shot of the set - short and wide delivery that was cut away for four.

Rohit Sharma with a couple of freebies from Rajitha and he obliges. Rohit tucks the first ball of the third over off the hip for a founf to long leg. The second one is a full delivery going down the leg side and Rohit flicks it through midwicket.

First comes Sri Lanka's national anthem and then the hosts'. Indian fans would feel good seeing their ODI superstars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli lining up once again. What an extraordinary pair of careers they have had, and what a top order they made for so many years with Shikhar Dhawan. 

There has been talk about why India did not play Ishan Kishan as an opener and fit Shubman Gill at No.3. Well, that is possibly because of the fact that India already have a player at No.3 who has scored 12,471 in 265 ODIs at an average of 57.47 and a strike rate of 93.01. He has scored 44 ODI centuries and 64 fifties and he recently broke his drought of tons in the format that went on for more than three years. Virat Kohli is looking to rediscover the form that made him a century machine averaging more than 60 in ODIs until 2019 but the fact remains that dropping him for a young player, regardless of how talented the latter may be, doesn't seem like a very good idea at the moment.

There is no Suryakumar Yadav. He just asserted his status as the best T20I player in the world by scoring his third century in the preceding T20 series against Sri Lanka but, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have been given the nod ahead of him. Rahul and Iyer have pretty extraordinary at No.4 and No.5 in ODIs and so, it is somewhat understandable, although at the moment it does feel like a team is making a mistake when they drop SKY regardless of the format. Sanjay Manjrekar said that he is “always disappointed” when Kuldeep Yadav is not included in the lineup while Krishnamachari Srikkanth cannot believe the fact that Washington Sundar is not there. 

We are happy to bat first. We would have liked to bowl as well, it's a good challenge. The ground was flooded with dew yesterday. There will be times where we need to bowl under dew, we got to be ready for that with the World Cup around the corner. It's about doing the basics right, it's important to do things differently at times. We need to keep moving in the right direction. Had a great time playing an ODI here last time, hope we'll have another memorable game today.

We are going to bowl first, because of the dew at night. It was a good boost, the way we played in the T20Is. Dilshan Madushanka is making his debut today.

Guwahati tends to be a batter-friendly wicket. There could be dew later in the day considering the early sunset that comes with winters here and so chasing would be a preferred choice for the captain who wins the toss.
