Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Commentary

3:21 AM IST Time for the summit clash - Now that we know our three teams on the podium, with Sri Lanka securing the bronze medal, it is now time to see which side takes home the Gold Medal at the 20th Asian Games. An age-old rivalry reignites at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, as India take on Pakistan. The winner gets to stand at the top with the coveted gold medal wrapped around their neck, whereas the loser has to settle for silver. Fireworks are destined to fly, so stick around for all the action. The final game is about to begin at 4.30 am GMT, but you can join our build-up, which is about to get underway in a bit. Cheers!
3:17 AM IST Bangladesh's mental strength in question - Bangladesh certainly seemed to have a more experienced side, and they also had a bowling attack that was conducive to the conditions out in the middle. They began impeccably, getting the opposition down to 21/4. Mahedi Hasan was brilliant up top, but then there was a bit of a lull. Bangladesh did manage to pick the 5th wicket and at that time, it seemed like they would keep Sri Lanka down to under 100 runs. However, things changed drastically when Mustafizur Rahman came in and bowled a howler of a first over, giving away 25 runs that included plenty of extras as well. From thereon, they never recovered. With the bat, the story was even worse. Bangladesh are 2/0 inside the first couple of overs and were under immense pressure. Sri Lanka bogged them down with spin from both ends as well. The top three all went out for ducks, as Parvez Hossain Emon and Yasir Ali made a couple of 20s. It was never going to be enough as they kept bleeding wickets. Nasum Ahmed hit a few boundaries at the end, but he was also the last one to fall on 26, leaving Bangladesh heartbroken.
3:12 AM IST Ratnayake's day out - Sri Lanka lost 4 wickets early on, and then they were 54/5 after a decent stand between Sahan Arachchige and Ashen Bandara when Tharindu Ratnayake walked out to bat. He played a few shots, but once he found his range, he made the Bangladesh bowlers pay. The score went from 54/5 to 147/6 in a flash when Ratnayake finally got out for 65. The skipper played second fiddle but played a very crucial knock nonetheless. With the ball, Nuwan Thushara got the ball rolling with a wicket-maiden, before Ratnayake joined the action again. He picked up a couple of wickets along with Thushara, and Sri Lanka also got 4 wickets in the Powerplay. The bowling changes kept on coming, and all of the Lankan spinners got plenty of purchase from the deck. Vijayakanth Viyaskanth and Wanuja Sahan also picked up a couple of wickets each, as the skipper himself got the final wicket and sealed a podium finish.
3:09 AM IST Sri Lanka take home Bronze - What a turnaround for the young Lions from Sri Lanka. They were dreadful with the bat for about one and a half games, but that final half today was exemplary. Their bowlers have then gone on and completed the job in iconic fashion. Bangladesh will feel the Bronze Medal was there for the taking, and they self-destructed quite a bit in this pressure clash.

Sahan Arachchige to Nasum Ahmed, no run

OUT! CAUGHT! The bowling change from Sahan Arachchige to bring himself back into the attack will do the last bit for Sri Lanka, as they have beaten Bangladesh by 63 runs to secure a bronze medal in the Asian Games 2026. Pitching full, wide outside the off stump. Nasum bites on the bait to hit it downtown. He swings hard, aiming to clear the boundary, but fails to reach the middle of the blade. Ashen Bandara judges the skier with ease, moving in slightly from the rope to take a routine catch.

Sahan Arachchige to Nasum Ahmed, no run

A touch shorter, on off, Nasum Ahmed flat bats it to long on, but Ahmed denies the single.
