Texas Super Kings vs Los Angeles Knight Riders Commentary

4:42 AM IST Done with the league stage - 30 games are in the books. Two teams have bowed out, leaving four still standing in the race for the title. The action now shifts to San Francisco for the remainder of the tournament, with the playoffs getting underway with a doubleheader on Thursday, 16 July. First up, at 3 am IST (9.30 pm GMT, previous day), the San Francisco Unicorns take on the Los Angeles Knight Riders in Qualifier 1. The winner will book a place in the final, while the loser will get a second chance in Qualifier 2. Later, at 7 am IST (1.30 am GMT), Washington Freedom face MI New York in the Eliminator. For the loser, it will be the end of the road, while the winner will progress to Qualifier 2. We look forward to having your company then. Cheers!
4:40 AM IST The captain of the Los Angeles Knight Riders - Jason Holder says what pleased him most was the manner in which his side went about the chase. He credits the bowlers for laying the platform before the batters completed a composed and controlled run chase. Holder believes the surfaces in San Francisco are unlikely to be as slow as the ones in Dallas, and says the team will assess the conditions once they get there before finalising their plans. On Ali Khan's finger injury, Jason reveals that the seamer split open the same area where he had suffered an injury before the tournament. He says the medical staff will continue to monitor him and assess him ahead of the playoffs.
4:35 AM IST PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Matthew Tromp has been given the award for his entertaining knock of an unbeaten 58 from 28 balls. Tromp says that the whole season has been great and the coaches have given him great confidence. He reckons that he is glad that his hard work is paying off and is hopeful that they will win the finals. He ends by saying that he has confidence in his team and that everyone did a good job.
4:33 AM IST The skipper of the Texas Super Kings - Faf du Plessis says that they knew 171 was not enough and they were 20-30 runs short. He adds that they fought well and they tried till the end. He reckons that Akeal was excellent and everyone tried their best. He further says that they failed to put good partnerships throughout the season and ends by saying that they had a few close games but didn't go their way.
4:32 AM IST Time for the presentation ceremony....
4:32 AM IST Munro and Tromp get it done - With 172 to chase, Colin Munro had the lion's share of the strike early on and ensured the Knight Riders got off to the ideal start in the Powerplay. His opening partner, Andre Fletcher, was not quite as fluent and was happy to play the supporting role during their 87-run opening stand. There was a brief wobble after Munro's dismissal, but Matthew Tromp, who had been given a life on 16, ensured the chase never veered off course. Who knows how differently the chase might have unfolded had Hardus Viljoen taken that catch?
