The India vs England series 2025 is set to begin this June, marking the start of a new chapter for Indian Test cricket after the retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. With several fresh faces in the squad and a new captain at the helm, the India England tour 2025 promises exciting cricket. The five-match IND vs ENG Test series will be part of the new World Test Championship cycle.
IND vs ENG 2025 Test series will see introduction of new faces while making room for experienced campaigners as well in India's squad for the England Test series. For the first time, top-order batter B Sai Sudharsan and left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh have received Test call-ups, indicating a fresh direction for India's long-format setup.
Leading the side is Shubman Gill, India’s youngest Test captain in recent years. The 25-year-old replaces Rohit Sharma, who stepped away from the format earlier this year after a dip in form. With Rishabh Pant named vice-captain, the leadership duo brings a youthful and dynamic edge to the squad.
The 18-member India squad for the England tour reflects a balance of youth and experience. Returning to the fold are Karun Nair and allrounder Shardul Thakur, both aiming to cement their spots in the longer format for India. The batting department will have the likes of KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran and wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel alongside Gill, Pant, Sudharsan and Nair.
The allrounders in the squad are: Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar offering spin options, while Nitish Kumar Reddy and Thakur would handle the pace bowling duties. In the bowling attack, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep and Arshdeep form a potent fast-bowling group, complemented by Kuldeep Yadav as the lone specialist spinner.
A few notable absentees include senior pros Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin and Rohit Sharma, all of whom retired from Test cricket recently. Mohammed Shami also misses out due to fitness concerns following ankle surgery.
As per the latest IND vs ENG news, the series begins with a warm-up match against India A from June 13–16 at Beckenham. The five-Test battle then begins on June 20 at Headingley, followed by matches at Edgbaston (July 2), Lord’s (July 10), Old Trafford (July 23) and The Oval (July 31).
Several players from the recent Australia series, including Sarfaraz Khan, Harshit Rana, Tanush Kotian and Devdutt Padikkal, were not retained in the squad for England. As the India England matches approach, the stage is set for a fresh chapter in one of cricket’s most iconic rivalries.
