NEW DELHI: Concerned about the rising instances of female foeticide, the Delhi Commission for Women has issued notices to deputy commissioners of all districts regarding the implementation of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act.

Swati Maliwal, DCW chief, on Friday asked about the number of meetings held with the district advisory committee, the minutes taken, the list of ultrasound centres in the district, and the number of machines and ultrasound operators. The DCW has asked all DCs to respond within 20 days.

The act came into force in 1994 to stop female foeticide and check the declining sex ratio in India. The act banned pre-natal sex determination to prevent sex selective abortions.

Maliwal tweeted: “Seeing horrifying stories of women forced to abort girl child, issued notice to all DM in Delhi seeking compliance of PCPNDT Act (sic)”.

“The Commission has sought a response from all Deputy Commissioners of all districts of Delhi who are the District appropriate authorities as per the PC-PNDT Act, to understand the implementation of the same,” she added.

She asked about the number of form Fs submitted by each facility within the district, the violations in filing form F, the specifications of the violations, and the number of show-cause notices issued and their copies.
