3 IAF men dead in Rajpath car crash

Three Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel were killed and four persons injured when a speeding car rammed into a van in central Delhi on Sunday morning.

Three Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel were killed and four persons injured when a speeding car rammed into a van in central Delhi on Sunday morning.

At round 9.45am, a Skoda, coming from Janpath, crashed into a Maruti van, carrying seven air force personnel and a woman out sightseeing, at the Rajpath-Janpath crossing. Initial investigation indicates that the Skoda driver jumped light.

"The Skoda was being driven at a high speed," said a senior police officer.

The injured were rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital. Manish Chauhan, a non-commissioned officer, was declared brought dead. Lakhan Das, a Class 4 employee, and SK Chakravarty, a warrant officer, succumbed to their injuries later.

Skoda driver Nishant Kumar has been arrested. The IAF staff were posted at the Dhansa station in southwest Delhi.
