City hospitals asked to review fire safety

Weeks after the Delhi Fire Services found chinks in fire safety at various Delhi hospitals, the government has asked the Public Works Department (PWD) to plug the gaps within two months.

Delhi health minister Ashok Kumar Walia directed the PWD and the medical superintendents of various government hospitals to review and upgrade the existing fire fighting systems to comply with the norms.

"Fire-fighting equipment such as water sprinklers, alarm system, hose pipe, fire check doors and dedicated water reservoirs tanks must be in place within the time line as per required the norms," Walia said.

The minister also asked the hospitals to ensure that all approach roads and lanes leading to hospitals are free of encroachment.

"All hospitals must obtain fresh no-objection certificates after ensuring that the fire safety norms are in place," he added.
