On the night of January 5, Kai Trostrum and his wife Shirin had taken a taxi from the prepaid counter of the airport for Paharganj but were taken to Pushkar instead.
On Tuesday, the two accused were arrested, but the couple were caught up with paperwork and could not enjoy their stay in India. However, when the police found out that it was Trostrum’s birthday on Wednesday, they made arrangements for the couple to visit Agra.
“They were here to celebrate, but became victim to touting. To save them from further torture, we recorded their statement on Tuesday and sent them to Agra on Wednesday. We will now make sure they don’t face any inconvenience,” said a senior police officer.
Sources said that before approaching the airport police, the couple had approached two police stations in New Delhi but they refused to lodge an FIR.
“They are tourists and so lack of action from the police’s side will portray the wrong image. After they approached us, we immediately started investigation. Now they are happy with Delhi Police and have agreed to come back during the course of trial, if required,” the officer added.
