The ongoing expansion of Delhi Metro under phase III, which seeks to interlink existing corridors in addition to providing connectivity in the outskirts, is scheduled for completion by March 2016.

But an RTI application filed by HT has revealed that work in several areas has been affected as DMRC has not received permission to cut 6,822 trees from the government because of non-availability of non-forest land needed for afforestation.

DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said, “We’re committed to meeting the deadline. But any further delay (in getting permission) will make things difficult.”
