Under Bachat Lamp Yojana, the public-private partnership scheme, high quality CFLs would be distributed at about Rs 15 per piece, Bureau of Energy Efficiency Director General Ajay Mathur said at a CII event on Carbon Credits.

This extension follows the success of the two pilot schemes in Vishakhapatnam and Yamunagar, he added.

The government would execute the scheme by using Program of Activity (PoA) approach, an umbrella framework to harmonise and facilitate the development and implementation of various projects in different parts of the country, he said.

However, the success of the scheme would depend on an early approval of the PoA by the Clean Development Mechanism Executive Board, which makes the final decision about project registration and the issuing of carbon credits, Mathur added.

According to Jubilant Organosys Managing Director Hari S Bhartia, there was an urgent need to reach an agreement on extending the commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol beyond 2012 at the forthcoming talks on climate change in Copenhagen.
