MCD to start online sanctioning of building plans from Nov 1, finally
After failing to meet several deadlines, the MCD will finally start sanctioning building plans online from November 1. Residents will no longer have to make rounds of the MCD headquarter, Civic Centre, to submit their plans. The building plan will also be sanctioned within seven days.

But to begin with, only people with plots measuring 400 square yards or above will only be able to apply online. The process will be made online for smaller plots only after a few months.
“A special software will determine whether the submitted application and drawings fulfill the criteria or not. In case of shortcomings, the applicant will be asked to furnish those details following which the application will be accepted. Once we receive it, building plan will be sanctioned in seven days,” said a senior MCD official.
If applications are not cleared within a week’s time, the officer concerned will be answerable. It takes between two to 10 months for any such plan to be sanctioned at present, which makes the process a breeding ground for corruption.
According to the MCD, all architects registered with the civic agency will be able to submit application online. “All the registered architects have been provided a unique login ID to upload the required documents, drawings and building plan application,” added the official.
Once, the building plan is approved, the architect concerned will get a confirmation through email.
“There will be no human intervention which will help curb corruption and red-tapism. Officials will not be able to sit on a file for more than the prescribed limit as they will then have to furnish details as to why they delayed processing the application,” said the official.
