'Naxals killed 281 hostages in last 3 yrs'

Naxals have kidnapped nearly 1,300 people in last three years and killed 281 of them in captivity, including 94 in Chhattisgarh.

As the crisis over the abduction of Sukma district collector Alex Paul Menon continues, official records show that Naxals have kidnapped 1,287 people in nine states -Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka since 2009 till April 17 this year.

Out of the abducted people, the Naxals have killed 281 of them while freeing the rest, the records say.

As many as 284 people were kidnapped in Chhattisgarh, one of the worst Naxal-hit states, and 94 of them were killed by the ultras.

There were 306 incidents of kidnapping in Jharkhand where 32 people were killed when they were in Naxal custody.

In West Bengal, the ultras kidnapped 150 people and 106 of them were killed there. Neighbouring Odisha too remained affected by left-wing extremism as Maoists abducted 146 people and killed 15 of them.

In Bihar, 196 people were kidnapped by the Maoists and 18 of them were killed.
