A college student in Bihar’s Digha has filed a complaint against eight students and warden of a women’s hostel where she lives accusing them of ragging, torture, and threatening to throw acid on her. She lodged the complaint a day after was allegedly ragged on February 8.

The student said she was admitted to the college on February 1 and has since then been tortured and threatened. “When I protested, they threatened me with dire consequences and even to throw acid on the face. On March 8, they confined me to a room, and nobody came to the rescue... The warden also threatened to spoil my life. I was not allowed to meet my family when I was confined.”
Rajesh Sinha, a local police officer, said the complaint has been sent to the college ragging cell before further action. “It was also found that the girl did not appear in some examination.”
The college denied any ragging on campus. “No complaint was lodged with the anti-ragging, grievance cell, or any other appropriate forum. The hostel where the incident allegedly took place is not on the college campus. Apart from our students, the hostel also provides accommodation to students from some other colleges. The college has a zero-tolerance policy to ragging,” the college said in a statement on Wednesday. It added the complainant and her parents met the college authorities on Wednesday with their complaint. “The college has assured them that the anti-ragging cell will look into the matter and take necessary action.”
