The Class 10 CBSE English exam, to be held on, should be attempted carefully as it presents students with the opportunity to push up the overall score. Dividing each section on the basis of its importance is the key to success.

Yogeeta Khanna, a Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 16, says, “the reading section in the examination is very important. For a good score, go through the questions thoroughly before you read the passage. Once you do this reading the passage will automatically guide you to the answers.”

When it comes to the writing section the formal letter is important and very scoring as well. Read the instructions carefully before you start writing the letter and make sure you don’t miss a single point asked in the question. Often students miss the important details and lose marks,” says Khanna.

Mohit Chitkara, a teacher at the Guru Nanak Public School, added, “The story asked in the question paper, must be attempted well. Many students miss giving it a title and don’t mention the moral of the story, which costs marks and does not impress the examiner. Make sure your give the title of the story and write about the moral of the story.”

Concentrate on the grammar section too. For good or bad the grammar questions have multiple choices which can be easy as well as difficult. “Read the passage given and choose the correct option based on the tense used. You may be given a choice and there’s no harm in attempting all of them in the Grammar part,” he adds

In the literature section, go through the NCERT book carefully at least once, Khanna adds. The lessons, poems as well as plays need to be revised properly . Also, students must keep in mind the name of the poet or the poem as well as authors for extra marks in English.

There are questions asked about the poetic devices, thus these devices should also be kept in mind, says Chitkara.

It is to be noted that there is a choice between the novels, The Story Of My Life by Hellen Keller and The Diary Of A Young Girl by Anne Frank. Both are wonderful novels and teach readers about the resilience of human beings. “There are many important points in the novel which must not be left behind,” says Chitkara
