The top two candidates split 97.5% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Harish Poonja got a total of 98,417 votes, while Indian National Congress's K.Vasantha Bangera secured 75,443 votes. All India Mahila Empowerment Party's candidate Jagannatha. M secured 1,806 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 55.2%, 42.3% and 1.0% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Indian National Congress's K. Vasantha Bangera defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's Ranjan G. Gowda by 15,741 votes.
