Kolar is one of the 224 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Kolar district. People of Kolar voted for Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 on May 10 and the result was declared on May 13.
In 2018, the Kolar assembly seat had 2,22,551 registered voters, 1,11,491 were male and 1,11,031 were female voters. 0.5% of voters opted for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In 2018, 21 candidates were competing for Kolar assembly constituency seat. Kolar was one of 37 seats won by the Janata Dal (Secular). It was a one way contest with Janata Dal (Secular)'s K.Srinivasa Gowda comfortably winning the election defeating Indian National Congress's Syed Zameer Pasha by a huge margin of 44,781 votes.
The top three candidates split 88.5% of votes between them. Janata Dal (Secular)'s K.Srinivasa Gowda got a total of 83,318 votes, while Indian National Congress's Syed Zameer Pasha secured 38,537 votes. Namma Congress's candidate R Varthur Prakash grabbed the third spot with 35,544 votes. The top three parties got 46.8%, 21.7% and 20.0% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Independent candidate R. Vathur Prakash defeated Janata Dal (Secular)'s K. Srinivasa Gowda by 12,591 votes.
