In the 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election, there were 12 candidates in the fray from Malur constituency. Malur was one of 80 seats won by the Indian National Congress. Indian National Congress's K.Y. Nanjegowda won the election upstaging Janata Dal (Secular)'s K.S.Manjunath Gowda by a margin of 17,915 votes.
The top three candidates split 97.9% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's K.Y. Nanjegowda got a total of 75,677 votes, while Janata Dal (Secular)'s K.S.Manjunath Gowda secured 57,762 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate Es.En.Krisshnaiah Setty Malur grabbed the third spot with 23,889 votes. The top three parties got 47.1%, 36.0% and 14.9% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Janata Dal (Secular)'s K.S. Manjunathgowda defeated independent candidate Krisshnaiah Setty Es.En. Maluru by 18,769 votes.
