Bharatiya Janata Party's Shankar B. Patil Munenakoppa won the election by upstaging Janata Dal (Secular)'s N. H. Konaraddi by a margin of 20,521 votes.
The top three candidates split 95.0% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Shankar B. Patil Munenakoppa got a total of 65,718 votes, while Janata Dal (Secular)'s N. H. Konaraddi secured 45,197 votes. Indian National Congress's candidate Asuti Vinod Kashinath grabbed the third spot with 38,906 votes. The top three parties got 41.7%, 28.7% and 24.7% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Janata Dal (Secular)'s N.H.Konaraddi beat Bharatiya Janata Party's Patil Munenakoppa Shankar by 2,669 votes.
