Ricky Kej on third Grammy win: Grateful to make India proud
The music composer becomes the only Indian to win three Grammy titles. Divine Tides marks his collaboration with Stewart Copeland.
Music composer Ricky Kej has become the only Indian to win three Grammys. The Bengaluru-based musician won a Grammy for Best Immersive Audio Album for his recent nine-track album Divine Tides with rock-legend Stewart Copeland, the drummer of the iconic British rock band The Police. Last year, Kej won a Grammy for the same album in the Best New Age Album category.
“I am really happy to let you know that I just won my third Grammy Award for Divine Tides with Stewart Copeland. It feels absolutely surreal to win the biggest prize in music again for the third time,” Kej tells us soon after “getting off the stage”.
The 41-year-old adds, “I am extremely grateful to have had another opportunity to make my country proud by achieving this on the biggest platform in the world for music. I’d like to thank the Recording Academy (the organisation behind Grammy Awards) for this honour, my collaborators Stewart Copeland, Herbert Waltl, Eric Schilling and everyone who made this album possible.”
Congratulating him, the Recording Academy tweeted, “Congrats Best Immersive Audio Album winner - ‘Divine Tides’ Eric Schilling, immersive mix engineer; @copelandmusic, @rickykej & Herbert Waltl, immersive producers (Stewart Copeland & Ricky Kej) #GRAMMYs (sic).”
Kej won his first Grammy in the Best New Age Album category for Winds of Samsara in 2015.
