Why are people shocked, wonders Rahul Mahajan’s ex-wife Shweta Singh, as the reality TV actor faces wife-beating charges again. This time, the charges come from Rahul’s second wife, Dimpy Ganguly, and Shweta says, this should have been expected.

“Hasn’t everyone known about him all along? Everyone has seen what happened with me earlier,” says Shweta, who divorced Mahajan in 2008 after he physically abused her. “Domestic violence is traumatic and more people need to

stand up against it. I can’t even think of marrying again, because I need to get over a lot of things that happened during my marriage,” she adds.

Dimpy, a Kolkata-based model, married Rahul in a much publicised wedding on TV reality show

Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

in March this year. In the early hours of Thursday morning, she walked out of their Worli house in Mumbai, after Rahul allegedly beat her up. According to reports, he hit Dimpy when her phone buzzed at 3.30am with an SMS, and she refused to show it to him. In an interview with a publication, Dimpy said he punched her, kicked her and dragged her by the hair. As a result, there were bruises on her shin and hands and her left cheek was swollen. There was also a bump on her head.

Though sources now claim that the physical abuse started a month after their wedding, in an interview to HT City just a day before this incident, both had claimed to be happily married. “We are happy together and no one can change that,” Dimpy had said.

The news is playing dampener in the plans of the channel that brought the couple together. “We are not thinking of

season 3 now. This has left us shocked. They had just got married. This was not expected,” said Sameer Nair, CEO of Imagine.

Unexpectedly, Rahul’s colleagues are supportive of him. “I can’t believe he is a wife beater…something must’ve triggered him off,” says Priyadarshani Singh, who was a contestant on the

show. Raja Chaudhary, who was on

Bigg Boss

with Rahul says, “Every husband has the right to check his wife’s phone if she gets a text at 3.30am.” At the time of going to press, both Rahul and Dimpy were unavailable for comment.
