Three men allegedly dragged three women, including two non-resident Indians women and their 75-year-old mother out of their house, thrashed them and snatched an expensive mobile phone on Wednesday in South City 1. The incident took place at block P around 5pm, police said.
A case was registered under Section 354 (B) at the Sector 40 police station on Wednesday.
As per the complaint given by the women, they came to the country from New York, USA, this week, to be with their parents. Their 84-year-old father, a retired armyman, was to undergo a surgery on Wednesday and their mother was with him and a nephew when the incident happened.
“We had gone to hospital for some tests and when we returned, we saw two tall men abusing my mother. My parents are old... these men who are staying next door often trouble them. When I intervened, one of them started abusing me,” Deepti Sharma (name changed), the complainant, said.
As the women rushed inside the house, the accused allegedly entered the house and broke the door. “We asked for help; my sister took out her mobile phone to record the incident but one of them snatched it and called their security guards too,” Rekha Sharma (name changed), the elder of the sisters, said.
The women called the police control room for help but they claim the personnel arrived late.
“The police came but they were apprehensive about taking action against the men...We are helpless in this city as we have no local contact and we have to leave for the USA next week,” Deepti said.
The women allegedly suffered injuries and they underwent a medical examination at the civil hospital.
Gurgaon police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar said a case has been registered and the facts are being verified. “The investigation will be conducted in a fair manner and all help will be accorded to the victims,” he said.
Police have also received a counter complaint from the neighbours against the family.
