Gurgaon: Water pipeline damaged, supply interrupted in sector 15

Despite repeated complaints, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) did not pay heed to the problem, said residents.

The residents of sector 15 have been completely dependent on water tanker as the water supply has stopped a week ago when a water pipeline was damaged during laying of cables by a telecom company. The leakage in pipeline resulted in no water supply in the area.

Despite repeated complaints, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) did not pay heed to the problem, said residents.

The residents alleged there is no coordination between the civic agencies. They said the company doing the laying work should have had the route chart of the underground pipelines, cables or wires of the concerned sector. They should have discussed before hand with the MCG, residents said.

Initially, the residents were unaware of the problem and thought there was no water supply for the entire sector.

“Due to leakage, the water got accumulated in front of the houses and no repair has conducted for last one week. We have been calling the junior engineer and executive engineer of MCG but they kept giving false promises and do not turn up for the repair work,” Ramesh Vasishta, a resident, and a member of the district grievance committee said.

Residents have paid Rs1,000 for water tankers and some houses did not even receive a single drop of water.

“Our sector is already the worst hit for water shortage and with such problems arising it becomes very difficult for the senior citizens to manage all alone. The authorities should at least take up such issues on priority,” said BS Yadav, another resident.

However, MCG officials said they checked the leakage as soon as they received the information.

“We have replaced the pipeline which was damaged by the telecom employees while laying the cables. The water supply was affected in the area but will be restored by Tuesday morning. Such work needs time for repair and we were checking the entire stretch for the leakage,” said Vinod Kumar, junior engineer, MCG.
