Mewat: 22-year-old patient raped by hospital staff

A case of rape (Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code) has been registered against the unknown accused, who works in the hospital and is at large.

The police said the woman was admitted in ward no 17 of the Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Government Medical College in Nalhar since June 1. The victim is a mother of three and hails from Biwan village in Ferozpur Jhirka area of Mewat.

The incident took place at 11 pm on Monday when the victim’s sister and brother-in-law were sleeping in the lobby of the general medicine department of the hospital.

According to the police, an employee of the hospital went up to the woman and informed her that her son was crying. She was later taken to a room in the hospital where the staff allegedly raped her keeping the room locked.

The brother-in-law spotted the victim lying unconscious inside the room where she was left by the accused. A case was filed at the Women Police Station in Nuh on Tuesday morning based on the family’s complaint. The medical examination of the woman confirmed she was raped.

“We have lodged a case of rape (376 IPC) against the unknown accused and the investigation is on,” said Deepak Gahlawat, senior superintendent of police, Mewat.

The police said that the accused has not been identified and the duty roaster of the hospital will be examined for the purpose.
