200 kg cocaine worth ₹2,000 crore seized in Delhi: Police

This is the second major drug haul in a week in the national capital and suspected to be linked to the earlier incident.

Police have recovered 200 kg cocaine worth ₹2000 crore from west Delhi's Ramesh Nagar, an officer said on Thursday evening.

Further, the officer stated the seizure is suspected to be linked with last week's recovery of 562 kg of the drug worth more than ₹5000 crore in southwest Delhi's Mahipalpur, PTI reported.

A raid is underway in the Ramesh Nagar area, he added.

According to NDTV, the Special Cell of Delhi Police tracked the cocaine supplier through GPS and zeroed in on him. While the accused fled to London, the drug was seized.

This means that in the past eight days, 762 kg cocaine worth more than ₹7000 crore, has been seized in the Capital.

In the earlier incident, the drug was seized from a godown in Mahipalpur on October 2; four people were arrested for their role in sourcing and selling the contraband.

Later, the Special Cell arrested a key accused, Jitendra Pal Singh, also known as ‘Jassi,’ from the Amritsar airport in Punjab as he was trying to flee to the United Kingdom. A look-out circular issued against Singh, a ‘permanent resident’ of the UK for the past 17 years, alerted police to his attempt to escape.

Meanwhile, police also claim an ‘international drugs smuggling syndicate’ is behind the massive cocaine consignment. The authorities believe this ‘syndicate’ oeprates out of Delhi and Mumbai, with links to Dubai. Additionally, name of Indian citizen, Virendra Basoya, based in Dubai, has come up during the interrogation of the suspects.

A Safi, from Tamil Nadu, is the sixth person to be arrested in the case. He was apprehended from his hometown near Chennai, the southern state's capital.
