Indore zone’s additional director general of police Varun Kapoor said the girl was sleeping with her parents in a hut near Kushta Seva Samiti when around 2am they found their daughter missing. They looked for the girl for some time and then approached the Hiranagar police station.

A special team was formed and they searched nearby areas and found the girl’s body floating in a nearby well on Monday evening. The post mortem report confirmed that the girl had been raped, murdered and thrown into the well.

Police questioned around 200 suspects and zeroed on Nandu Gamad, a 30-year-old tribal from Jhabua who lived in the vicinity.

Kapoor said Nandu confessed that he picked up the girl while her parents were sleeping and took her to the fields and raped her. Fearing that she would recognise him, he strangled her to death and dumped her body in the nearby well.

The senior police officer said apart from Nandu’s confession, forensic reports have proved that he is the accused.
