Law student misses exam as pack of strays bite her, 2nd dog bite case in two days
In a similar incident on Saturday, a five-year-old child was attacked in the same colony by the same pack of dogs. The boy sustained serious injuries in the attack.
LUCKNOW In yet another dog bite incident in the state capital, a pack of eight-to-ten stray dogs attacked Shivangi Singh, a 24-year-old law student, on Monday. The victim was on her way to appear for an exam when the incident took place in the Swapnalok Colony of Lucknow’s Kamta area.

“The girl, pursuing LLB from City Law College, missed her exam as she was attacked by a pack of strays. The attack took place immediately after she stepped out of her home,” said Prem Chandra Srivastava, secretary of Swapnalok Colony. The girl has sustained injuries on her hands and legs.
In a similar incident on Saturday, a five-year-old child was attacked in the same colony by the same pack of dogs. The boy sustained serious injuries in the attack.
“These incidents have terrorised the people of the colony. Last month, about 12-15 such cases surfaced in the area. It is crucial to fix this issue altogether for our safety,” added Srivastava. He also announced that legal action will be taken against those people who are found feeding the responsible stray dogs with biscuits, milk, leftovers, and other eatables.
Speaking on the incidents involving canines, chief veterinary officer Abhinav Verma said, “Three dogs have been caught from the area and their sterilisation process is underway. After sterilisation, the behaviour of canines changes and it takes around 45-50 days for them to normalise. However, the process has nothing to do with them getting aggressive.”
When told about the allegation of residents that stray dogs are dropped in the same area after sterilisation, Verma said, “We can’t relocate a dog. Besides, we sterilise 70 dogs every day from across the city. There is a lack of enough space for all of them. Hence, we are bound to leave the dogs from where we picked them,” he added.
